Degrassi High’s Trans Guy

The TV show “Degrassi” is about realistic teens in an average high school in Toronto Canada. The show has never been afraid to hit any issue, no matter how taboo or how sensitive. They’ve talked death, abortion, suicide, dating, homophobia, sexual abuse, drug use and even HIV/AIDS before it was “acceptable” to do so.

In 2010 Degrassi introduced a female-to-male transgender student, Adam Torres. In true ‘Degrassi’ fashion, Adam was first singled out for his identity, but quickly became just another teenager. The character is well written and played by young actress Jordan Todosey, who plays the role both accurately and with compassion. In early 2011, Adam was struggling with his first real relationship.
